Exciting new developments & updates from the field

A new community for Mt. Wellington

Over 4,000 tonnes of rock and a sizeable chunk of Mt. Wellington was removed to make way for this brand new 37 home community in Mt. Wellington. Built on rock solid foundations, a mixture of 2, 3 & 4 bedroom family homes, as well as a number of fully accessible homes, create a vibrant community that will serve generations to come. With most homes now already tenanted, the range of housing has supported a significant diversity of families and created a rich vitality within the local community.

20 homes, with more to come

More than four months ahead of schedule, our team recently completed the first 20 homes of this 45 home community in Manurewa. These beautiful modern homes meet a real need for the local community where warm, dry and affordable homes are in desperate demand. We want to take the opportunity to thank our amazing team and build partners for this great result. We’re excited to see the remaining 25 homes, including a 12 unit apartment block, completed in time for Christmas.

Construction Update - Onehunga Mall Road

This Monk Mackenzie designed apartment complex in Onehunga will provide 16 modern homes for families and individuals. Sharp angular edges within an engaging communal space create an elegant blend between contemporary design and communal living. Duplex roofing is on, windows are in and the street front slabs are almost ready for the three-storey framing to start going up.

Construction Update - Chapel Street Studios

It's exciting to see the apartment buildings on this studio accommodation development come to life on Chapel Street. Close to Botany Junction and the Botany Big Box Shopping Centre, these 75 new homes will help serve the growing East Auckland community. This project also represents another significant number of families in Nepal who will receive homes as a part of our home-for-a-home partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Our client Clarke Group, are also proud sponsors of Habitat for Humanity so our impact on this project is twofold.

Regional Family Sized Homes

We've been hard at work on the regions working on a number of developments in Hamilton, Rotorua, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Timaru. One of which we recently finished, (featured above), two 4-bedroom homes in Hastings. With linear weatherboard and cedar board and batten cladding, these new homes make a beautiful addition to the local community. Particularly impressive on this project was the speedy turnaround time - building consent was issued on 8th March and the project was completed by 26th June! A massive thank you to our build partners Atkin Construction Ltd for their exceptional delivery and partnership. Well done to all involved!

Construction Update - Nikau

This 9 unit apartment block is almost complete in New Lynn and will give nine families warm, dry, and modern homes, some even with sky tower views. With weatherboard and brick cladding, the aluminum louvered screens are a nice design touch. We are really looking forward to welcoming people into these beautiful new homes very soon.

32 new homes for Nepal

A small team of home. staff and volunteers have recently returned from a ten-day trip to Nepal, where we helped build 32 new homes for families in need as part of our Home-for-a-Home Scheme with Habitat for Humanity. Read the full story

Empowering the next generation of tradespeople

Through our work we see the challenges faced by companies on an almost daily basis and believe apprenticeship schemes are essential to the long term health of our industry. By developing a deeper talent pool of skilled tradespeople that addresses the ongoing skills shortage and enables sustainable growth in the domestic market.

Here at home we’re proud to have trained more than twenty-eight apprentices over the past eight years and we’ve also made an internal commitment to ourselves to have at least 15% of our workforce in an apprenticeship or cadetship. Read the full story here.

Blockhouse Bay Underway

Our 28 home development in Blockhouse Bay is underway. After dealing with a significant number of challenging ground issues, the project is now in full swing. Civil works are nearly complete and the foundations and frames are starting to appear.

28 New Homes in Rangiora

2018 ended on a high with the early completion of stage one of our Rangiora redevelopment project, meaning residents were able to move into their new homes in time for Christmas. The largest development of its type ever undertaken by Housing New Zealand in North Canterbury involves building twenty eight homes purpose-built for the elderly, to replace the nine older houses originally on the site. Designed by Rohan Collett Architects the new homes were completed five months ahead of schedule, a huge achievement for all involved. We are very thankful for the opportunity to deliver these homes early to the Rangiora community, and look forward to completing the remaining houses in the coming months.

Affordable Housing on Sherborne Street

We took a significant step last year, and began work on our very own affordable housing development. This development is the first of many we have in the pipeline for 2019. We have always had a passion to be able to provide quality housing at an affordable price to the people of Aotearoa. Sherborne street is a unique inner-city community in the heart of central Christchurch that will be sold to owner-occupiers as genuinely affordable. This project will be ready for its new owners to move in from May 2019. For more info -

Here at home, our people are at the heart of everything we do and the WEP's initiative aligns very strongly with our own mission of helping to build flourishing communities.

Pallant & Wordsworth

Four damp, older homes were demolished to make way for a new community of mixed sized units and houses on the existing site. Integrated into the landscape with great architecture and urban design the site now consists of fifteen new homes ranging from one to four bedrooms, to meet the needs of the community. We are thrilled to be able to deliver this great project in time for the holiday

Alpine View Clubhouse

Our team have just completed the beautiful new clubhouse at the Alpine View retirement village. Designed by +MAP Architects this clubhouse will serve as an important community gathering space for the local residents. Beautiful communal spaces like this are an important outworking in our mission to build flourishing communities. We are confident that in such a beautiful space there will be many hours of laughter, friendship, deep conversations, and reflections on a life well lived.

Regional Housing Programme (RHP)

The NZ Government has committed to building 1000's of new state homes every year. As part of this initiative, the Government has rolled out Phase 1 of a Regional Housing Programme (RHP). home. is proud to be delivering a significant portion of the Governments regional housing programme (RHP).

The Metro Apartments

A project which has taken nearly two years and over 10,000 man hours to complete wrapped up this month. 15 new homes were restored and handed back to the local community. Abandoned, leaky, and earthquake damaged, this piece of architectural history in Christchurch’s central city was originally slated for demolition. Having completed over 4,000 earthquake repairs in the city, the owners turned to home to see if this old lady could be saved. The project delivery team lead by Martin Potts and Andrea Fridd together with the rest of the Buildtech team and its supply partners, worked tirelessly to see this grand piece of architecture fully restored to modern building standards. A testimony to the fact restoring communities involves respecting our heritage while at the same time embracing the future.

Sonny's Home Repair

This month our Auckland team partnered with Habitat for Humanity and took to the tools to help a family in our community in desperate need. Sonny has had cancer twice and is currently raising his two young granddaughters, yet has an amazingly positive attitude on life. So we undertook a full replacement of his bathroom, laundry, hallway and kids room. As well as some piling and rewiring of the house. It’s was a massive team effort with subcontractors, staff, and suppliers and we personally want to thank everyone involved.

Mangere Development Completed

home is proud to deliver a brand new housing project in Mangere, Auckland for Housing NZ. Originally this site consisted of three uninsulated, damp homes which have been replaced with ten new, warm and dry homes. A mixture of two bedroom units and four bedroom stand-alone homes the site was a full Design and Build project by Buildtech. These low maintenance homes provide great amenity and community connection for the new residents.

Sarah finalist for 'Tradeswoman of the Year'

A massive congratulations to our very own Sarah Murray for being nominated as a finalist for 'Tradeswomen of the Year' in the fourth annual NAWIC Excellence Awards reflecting the outstanding contribution being made by women across the industry. The awards, which will be held at the Auckland Town Hall on Friday 17th August, celebrate the achievements of women in construction. Incredible achievement Sarah and we're backing you to win!

Chapel Road Development

home is excited to be partnering with Clarke Group to deliver this comprehensive 75 studio accommodation development on Chapel Road in the East Auckland. This partnership with the Clarke Group further delivers on home’s mission to build flourishing communities, through the provision of safe, affordable, and well designed housing.

Fiji Housing Development

As part of its global build programme, home has opened up its overseas build missions with Habitat for Humanity to all its partners, suppliers, subcontractors and customers. The next trip is to a housing development project home is undertaking in partnership with Habitat for humanity in Fiji from 2nd-8th of September. Wordsworth & Awakino Development

home has been engaged by HNZC to redevelop this 9,641sqm site in Manurewa. Previously there were fourteen 1970’s homes that will now be replaced with 45 new homes. These new homes have an estimated date of completion in the second half of 2019.

Alpine View Lifestyle Vilage Clubhouse

This project will bring to life a central gathering place for all the residents residing at Alpine View. An intricate steel and timber design, a fire that can be seen from inside and out, and with a large bowling green out the front this will be a beautiful place for the local community to spend time with each other.

New Lynn Apartment Complex

home is underway with the design and build of this three level apartment block in New Lynn. Using passive fire and Homestar energy efficiency design principles, this project will house up to 9 families or individuals in warm, dry and modern housing. home is undertaking all aspects of the design, consent, civils and construction and is due for completion early 2019.

Habitat Nepal Trip

A team from home and Habitat for Humanity NZ visited a number of housing development projects in Nepal this month. The visit was part of home’s Home-for-a-Home programme which sees Buildtech fund the building of a home in Nepal or Fiji through Habitat for Humanity, for every home it builds in New Zealand. Already this year home has funded more than 50 homes in Nepal, and hopes to build hundreds more over the next 3 years. The team also visited a flood response community where Habitat Nepal built 1300 temporary shelters and lent their hands in building a permanent house for Kala and her family.

Napier Transitional Housing Development

We completed 10 transitional houses for our clients Housing New Zealand and Ministry of Social Development. The entire development was completed in 17 weeks, and will serve the local Napier community well. We are incredibly thankful to the local Atkin Construction team for their assistance. home. undertook the full redevelopment of this site on behalf of Housing New Zealand to build 10 transitional houses involving all stages of the design, building consent process, civil works, construction and landscaping. Thanks to the team at Atkin Construction for their assistance.

Blockhouse Bay Development

home has been engaged on behalf of HNZC to oversee the design and construction of these 28 new homes in Blockhouse bay. A mixture of two-story standalone houses and duplexes, this project is underway and will be completed before by mid 2019. These homes will help provide much needed housing to the local community.

Metro Apartments, Christchurch CBD

We are so pleased to have a project taking place within the four avenues of the Christchurch CBD rebuild. Our Metro Apartment project is one of the most technically challenging construction projects our team has worked on and we are now nearing the final stages. These finished apartments will be of great value to the city center community.

Panama Road Development

Located in Mt Wellington, Auckland this project sees the re-purposing of two existing sites that have had the original houses demolished and the construction of 37 new two-storey homes. home’s role oversees the design and construction of the project through one of our award-winning build partners, Sentinel Homes.

Salisbury Street

home. took on the Scoping, Reinstatement Reporting, Project Management and Construction of this 806m², five unit, two-storey complex. Working in with Homestar and Lifemark client objectives. home. managed the verification, pre-construction and construction phases of this rebuild, handing the keys over to the homeowners following an 11-month build.
