Resolving to find solutions

A new year can often be the time when we set lofty goals, putting our mistakes and shortcomings behind us and resolving to do better in the future.

But what if you have had the same lofty goal for a decade, and instead of forgetting what is past, we resolve to keeping working on the same goal and sticking with what we set out to do all those years ago? Less a ‘fresh start’, more a ‘fresh continuation’.

At Home, we know our purpose and we’re clear on what we want to achieve – build homes so that no one will be homeless. Which makes setting our new year’s resolution very easy, if a little repetitive!

What are you resolving to do this year? Is it in line with your purpose? Will it help you reach your goal?

Sullivan's Ave, Christchurch

In order to reduce delay’s and keep momentum on site, all four homes are at different stages of construction, from foundations through to interiors being fitted. We are thankful for our build partners’ flexibility to work around material challenges and keep progress moving forward.

Karamū Construction Update

The built form of all 84 homes we are building in Karamū are now visible and the roofs of all homes will be complete in the coming weeks. With only the final exterior cladding, internal fitouts and landscaping left to complete on the homes from Stage 1, we are excited that despite supply challenges, we will soon see the completion of new homes for first home buyers.

Investing in our industry's future

On Friday, 26 November our team, including a number of apprentices welcomed the Housing Minister Hon Dr Megan Woods and Kāinga Ora’s DCE South Island Paul Commons to one of our Christchurch sites, to celebrate a significant achievement. As a result of our partnership with Kāinga Ora, together with our build partners, we have created over 30 new apprenticeships in 2021, bringing the total over the last three years to just over 100 new apprenticeships. This investment into the industry means more homes built, more employment opportunities created and greater skills available for construction in Aotearoa.

Papatoetoe Update

Framing is reaching for the sky in Papatoetoe, our team in Auckland have been doing their best to ensure those projects continue to progress amid pressure from supply chain and Alert Levels. This collection of three projects contains a mixture of Four, Five & Six Bedroom homes. Nominated for displaying our values (As celebrated below) Marvin Fernandez has been leading a great team to ensure that families can be settled as soon as possible.

Overcoming adversity through partnership

Lockdowns, supply shortages, a stretched workforce and changing health and safety requirements are putting new pressures on an already struggling sector. We discuss that more in our news article this month. What we can also report on, is the amazing support we have received from so many of our build partners, suppliers and clients.
