Exciting new developments & updates from the field

Investing in our industry's future

On Friday, 26 November our team, including a number of apprentices welcomed the Housing Minister Hon Dr Megan Woods and Kāinga Ora’s DCE South Island Paul Commons to one of our Christchurch sites, to celebrate a significant achievement. As a result of our partnership with Kāinga Ora, together with our build partners, we have created over 30 new apprenticeships in 2021, bringing the total over the last three years to just over 100 new apprenticeships. This investment into the industry means more homes built, more employment opportunities created and greater skills available for construction in Aotearoa.

Papatoetoe Update

Framing is reaching for the sky in Papatoetoe, our team in Auckland have been doing their best to ensure those projects continue to progress amid pressure from supply chain and Alert Levels. This collection of three projects contains a mixture of Four, Five & Six Bedroom homes. Nominated for displaying our values (As celebrated below) Marvin Fernandez has been leading a great team to ensure that families can be settled as soon as possible.

Overcoming adversity through partnership

Lockdowns, supply shortages, a stretched workforce and changing health and safety requirements are putting new pressures on an already struggling sector. We discuss that more in our news article this month. What we can also report on, is the amazing support we have received from so many of our build partners, suppliers and clients.

It was fantastic to be acknowledged by UN Women and NZ Women's Empowerment Principles Committee at the 2021 White Camellia Awards by finalising for Principles 2 (Treat all Women and Men Fairly at Work without Discrimination) and 4 (Education and Training for Career Advancement) and taking the win for Principle 3 (Employee Health, Well-Being and Safety).

Mates Fly the Flag

During the whole month of November, MATES in Construction New Zealand has been raising awareness of the importance of talking about mental health and suicide prevention. 660 flags flew on 450 sites across Aotearoa, to remember those that we have lost to suicide. Alongside the ‘Flying the MATES Flag’ initiative, our team gathered for a toolbox meeting across the country to show our support, learn about the services available and raise awareness of suicide prevention in our industry.
